The Mermaid – Lady of the Ancient Sea – (Natural Heritage)
It is one of the marine mammals that once lived near ancient shorelines, feeding on aquatic plants. Mermaids were drawn to this area by the abundance of food and the warmth of its waters.
Far from being a myth, the “Lady of the Sea” was a real creature that lived around 37 million years ago, in warm marine environments that once covered this land. The Mermaid—a gentle, herbivorous marine mammal—would glide peacefully near the coasts, grazing on lush seagrass meadows in a serene scene of natural harmony.
The Qasr El Sagha area at the summit of Gebel Qatrani is remarkable for containing large numbers of fossilized Mermaid skeletons, clear evidence that this place was once a thriving safe haven, offering warmth, food, and tranquility to these graceful creatures.
Standing before these fossils, you see more than bones—you hear the whisper of an ancient sea and glimpse the ghosts of creatures that once belonged to a magnificent world, now buried beneath the sands, yet still present in spirit.
